Plastic Ingenuity, a US-based custom thermoformer has teamed up with the National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR) and Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) to fund a grant program to collect and process PET thermoformed packaging.

The grant, which was initially introduced in July 2011 is open to US recycling programs and was slated to have one single recipient, which will be extended to three recipients now.

Plastic Ingenuity said the program aims to increase the preparation of recycling centers and reclamation plants for better handling and increased recycling of thermoformed plastics.

Plastic Ingenuity, by working with NAPCOR and SPI will emphasize on the growing volume of PET thermoformed plastic and the obstacles faced by recycling facilities when it comes to handling them including deli trays, salad containers or the packaging of vegetables.

Plastic Ingenuity is assisting the program with financial support, and through managed and educated recycling training and education it is helping award recipients and their communities to reduce waste.
