US meat company Central Valley Meat (CVM) has reopened its California meat facility after the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) accepted its action plan involving humane treatment of livestock.

Recently, USDA shut the plant after it was provided with video revealing inhumane handling and treatment of livestock. The video was provided by an investigator for the animal rights group, Compassion Over Killing.

Following this, restaurant chains McDonald's and In-N-Out Burger announced that they will be suspending purchases from CVM.

CVM noted that it has submitted an action plan to the USDA, which involves better training for the workers, better monitoring of the facilities, and more frequent third-party audits of the operations. The company said that the USDA has accepted the action plan and permitted to open the plant.
